Commercial Case Study: Rozen Furniture
When Ruan Minor-based Rozen Furniture reached out to me about capturing the results of one of their bespoke commissions, I couldn’t wait to get involved. Showcasing their exquisite work in situ, the project involved photographing one of their handcrafted fitted kitchens, along with an adjoining utility room, in a private home in Cornwall.

More than just documenting a kitchen through the lens, the photoshoot was about capturing the artistry and meticulous attention to detail that Rozen is renowned for. To do this, I needed to not only showcase the stunning overall space, but also all the intricate details and finishing touches that make this kitchen and utility room a unique work of craftsmanship.
Having discussed the brief with Rozen, my approach centred around achieving a collection of wide, establishing shots, as well as a series of close-ups to highlight the finer aspects of the design and installation. These detailed shots were crucial in illustrating the quality and precision of the workmanship involved in bringing kitchen to life.
Functionality and Design
As this was a fully bespoke kitchen, I focused on sequences that demonstrated how each element functioned within the kitchen and utility. To illustrate this, I shot a series of photos which showed cabinets and drawers open, partially open, and closed, allowing prospective clients to visualise how these features would work and look. This sequence was particularly important to demonstrate the interplay of form and function, the quality of the finish, and how space can be maximised.

Capturing the curves in the kitchen's design was another significant factor, contrasting the clean, angular lines of the rest of the room. Rounded angles and cabinetry corners made for a soft, elegant touch, and reflected the versatility of Rozen’s design and commissioning work. Working in harmony with the setting, it was important to portray these sweeping lines and gentle curves in a way that potential clients could appreciate the craftsmanship woven into each aspect.
Lighting and Branding
As part of the room’s original design, the kitchen featured a beautiful skylight that allowed natural light to flood the room. As it was mid-afternoon when I did this shoot, the light of the sun brightly illuminated the room. Making the most of the natural lighting, I seized the opportunity to create some abstract, artistic shots in addition to the broader, encompassing shots. These included close-ups of particular design features to showcase them in their own right. The aim was to offer a different perspective and pay homage to each of the kitchen’s handcrafted elements.

To ensure symmetry throughout the shoot, consistency was key. Beforehand, Rozen Furniture and I had met to discuss the project brief and the company’s branding, agreeing on a specific colour and style for the images so that all the photos I took had a cohesive look and feel. This consistency is a really important part of all branding strategy, preserving brand identity and making sure that photos are instantly recognisable and relatable to the brand.
Props and Aesthetics
For this particular shoot, I was photographing a real, lived-in kitchen. Unlike a show home, this setting allowed Rozen to reflect their work in a much-loved home and portray how it looks in situ. Of course, this also meant that it was already a functioning, family space, which meant that it had to be properly styled before I could begin. I brought along a few props to break up the large worktop areas, and also removed any distractions that I thought might draw the eye away from the main features. It was a delicate balance of taking away items and adding others to create the perfect shot.
In the end, this project was not only about photography, but storytelling too. Through my lens, I aimed to share the journey of this kitchen’s artisan design from paper to home, its seamless functionality, and the exceptional craftsmanship of Rozen Furniture. The result was a beautiful collection of images that not only showcases the space, but also reflects the team’s dedication to the highest quality craft.
